x Chitalpa tashkentensis - Chitalpa avenue Rarely grown here in AustraliaThis small deciduous and unusual tree is a intergeneric hybrid between Catalpa bignonioides and Chilopsis linearis. It was breed at the Botanical Garden of the Uzbek Academy of Science in the then USSR (now Uzbekistan) in 1964 for what ever reason best left to Soviet scientists (almost has a dystopian vibe to it). However it is quite hardy and its flowers are gorgeous.
